Ninety-seven years after life on Earth was nearly wiped out as a result of a nuclear war, the last remaining humans live in a vast complex of space stations, once formed of several smaller stations that were in orbit at the time of the disaster. As resources become increasingly scarce and life support systems fail, it is decided to send 100 juvenile prisoners (including Eliza Taylor, Thomas McDonell, and Bob Morley) to Earth's surface to see if the planet is habitable again. Upon arrival, the big group will find a wonderfully thriving world. But the idyll is deceptive. Thus, when forming a community far from the constraints of their lives, young people not only have to cope with dangerous tensions within their ranks, but soon realize that they are not at all alone on the blue planet.
