The Middle Plot
The triple mother and car dealer Frankie Heck (Patricia Heaton) lives together with her somewhat cozy man Mike (Neil Flynn) in Orson, Indiana. The teenager Axl (Charlie McDermott), named after Guns'n'Roses singer Axl Rose, is in a rebellious phase. His younger sister Sue (Eden Sher) suffers under her braces and her failed attempts to do something special. The youngest son Brick (Atticus Shaffer) is as an intelligent bookworm something like the black sheep of the family.
Both the outside and inside shots of the series are shot at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California. The TV series is produced by Warner Bros. and Blackie and Blondie Productions.
ABC first ordered only thirteen episodes and added them to the 2009-2010 broadcast schedule. The series The Middle received a full season on October 8, 2009, with 22 episodes. On January 12, 2010, ABC ordered a second season of The Middle.
While the extension took place a third season in January 2011, ABC announced in May 2012 the production of a fourth season, whose broadcast was from 26 September 2012 to 22 May 2013. The fifth season was shown on ABC from 25 September 2013 to 21 May 2014. On September 24th, 2014, ABC began broadcasting the sixth season.
In the autumn of 2011, the public-law digital broadcasting company ZDFneo secured German broadcasting rights and showed the first two seasons from 1 March to 7 May 2012. The third season was shown there from 17 July to 2 August 2012. The broadcast of the fourth season took place from 15 May to 30 July 2013 also on ZDFneo. The broadcast of the fifth season took place between 30 August and 4 October 2014.
Since the 2nd of January 2013 ORF one shows the series. Since January 2, 2016, ProSieben has been showing the first season of the series.
