Peaky Blinders Plot
The focus of the series is the Gangster gang Peaky Blinders. Tommy Shelby, the ambitious leader of this "family business" is traumatized by his experiences as a World War I volunteer in the Battle of the Somme, which he tries to forget in the opium rush. When in 1919 a large shipment of machine guns from the British Army fell into his hands, Winston Churchill became aware of the gang and commissioned Chief Inspector Chester Campbell to secure the weapons by all means. The newly founded IRA is also looking for weapons. Further complicating the situation is the wedding of Tommy's sister Ada with communist agitator Freddie Thorne. Despite all the difficulties, Tommy continues to work on expanding the company.
In the second season, the "Gypsies" under Thomas Shelby try to extend the influence of the Peaky Blinders on London. But he interferes in the clashes between the Jews under the black burner Alfie Solomons and the Italian book company Darby Sabini. Meanwhile, his old opponent Campbell (now promoted to Major and working on behalf of Winston Churchill) tries to force him to assassinate a former Black and Tans officer. The clashes escalate at the Epsom Racecourse, where Thomas executes the attack, while his aunt Polly faces Major Campbell and attacks the Peaky Blinders Sabinis bookmakers.
The third season is set in 1924. Thomas Shelby and the Peaky Blinders have now become legally wealthy businessmen. At the same time, however, they are caught up in the turmoil of an international intrigue initiated by high-ranking politicians and business representatives of the British upper classes. The Peaky Blinders are here to provide Russian monarchists weapons for the fight against the ruling Bolsheviks; however, it later turns out that an assassination attempt is being staged on the supply, giving the British government an excuse to break off diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union. In parallel, the Peaky Blinders are struggling with the rebellion of Italian gangsters in Birmingham. In the course of this dispute, Tommy's wife Grace is shot and the Peaky Blinders murder in return the head of the Italian clan Vincente Changretta. Although the Peaky Blinders manage to defend themselves in all clashes, Tommy realizes that their enemies are too powerful. The season ends with his announcement to have made a "deal" with even higher powers, a deal that has the arrest of two of his brothers, his aunt and his cousin result.
The fourth season begins with Tommy passing the pardon of his relatives, as their heads are literally stuck in the noose of the gallows trick. As a result, the Shelby family lives in disarray and disillusionment in Birmingham and the surrounding area. A reconciliation is, however, a new external enemy: Luca Changretta, son of shot in the third season of the Peaky Blinders gangster Vincente Changretta and senior member of the Sicilian mafia of New York City, traveling with several men for a vendetta to Birmingham to gradually avenge the shelves. For Tommy and his family, there is only one strategy left to survive this vendetta: the return to the workhorse Small Heath, where their rise began.
