The special effects experts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage try to clarify in their mission by means of experiments and modern technology what is true of certain urban myths and what is fiction. For example, they clarify what would happen if someone fires a pistol in a flying plane or if someone could kill someone with a thrown playing card.
To illustrate the respective myths came to the 14th season short animated films are used, in which the main characters return in cartoonized form. The raw animation style underlined the experimental nature of MythBusters. In addition, the planning phases of all experiments were adjusted before the camera. Sketches in the blueprint style translated the question into a television-oriented way and produced a recognizable MythBusters look. Blueprints from previous programs decorated the headquarters of the Mythbusters.
The design was changed from the 15th season. In the new design, the steps of the MythBusters are no longer explained by sketches and blueprints, but with simple graphics and short, white texts that are placed over the normal image. The new design also includes a new intro.
At the end of each experiment, the myth is destroyed (busted), plausible, or confirmed. The myth is called destroyed if the experiments, even under improved conditions, do not achieve the result the myth claims. A plausible myth refers to alleged events, often with historical background, such as the allegedly only successful escape from the prison island of Alcatraz or the experiment conducted by Benjamin Franklin with a dragon in a thunderstorm. Since there is often no clear evidence that the event in question has taken place here is only checked whether the myth as described would have been possible. If the experiments confirm the process, it is considered plausible. The myth is validated if the experiments yield the result described in the myth.
Hynemans special effects company, M5 Industries Inc and San Francisco's Bay Area are the scene of most episodes of MythBusters - The Knowledge Hunters. Examining myths led the Mythbusters team several times to abandoned military bases (NAS Alameda and Hamilton Air Force Base, Novato), desiccated lakes, to an aircraft cemetery in the Mojave Desert (Mojave Air & Space Port), to the Altamont Raceway Park as well to South Africa and the Bahamas.

MythBusters - Mythbusters (Original Title: MythBusters) was an American documentary series on the Discovery Channel television channel that explored and verified "urban myths". Actually, the format MythBusters was developed for Australia, but rejected there on the grounds that it was not scientific enough. In 2002 Discovery gave the show a chance in the US with three pilot episodes. In Germany, the show is currently on DMAX and Discovery Channel.
