Empire Plot
Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) has left his criminal past behind him and has become the CEO of the record company Empire Entertaiment. He reigns unaffectedly about his musical environment, until he learns that a serious illness will paralyze him. The question now arises as to which of his three sons will lead the company in his place in the future: Hakeem (Bryshere Gray), Jamal (Jussie Smollett) or Andre (Trai Byers). Lucious favorite is Hakeem, a playboy, who is afraid of hard work. The middle son Jamal avoids the limelight and is sensitive, but is also a musical miracle child. Lucious is ashamed of him because he is gay. The oldest son, Andre, is already the financial director of the record company. But Lucious finds that something important is missing for him to lead the company completely: Charisma. Andre still wants to be the successor and is supported in his project by his wife Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday). Lucious calls on his sons to compete for the soon-to-be-filled post. As if the beginning conflict in the family were not enough, Lucious ex-wife Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) is also released seven years earlier. She believes she has built up the company and sees herself as a victim, since she has taken the punishment for Lucious drug trafficking, with which he once financed. The struggle for the throne of the music room threatens to destroy the family.
