When FBI agent Emily Byrne (Stana Katic) suddenly disappears without a trace while chasing a serial killer, she is pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Six years later, it turns out Emily is still alive. When the police find her stricken in a remote cabin, Emily herself does not seem to know what exactly happened to her in the meantime. As she tries to get to the bottom of the mystery, she is denied a smooth return to her old life. Her husband Nick (Patrick Heusinger) has since remarried and his new wife Alice (Cara Theobold) raises Emily's son with him. Emily tries hard to come to terms with her new life situation and soon faces another horrific series of murders.
In the center of "Absentia" stands FBI agent Emily Byrne (Stana Katic), who disappears without trace during the hunt for one of the notorious serial killer in the history of Boston - and is finally declared dead. Six years later, she is found in a forest hut, half dead and with no memory of what has happened in recent years. When she returns home, she realizes that her husband has remarried and her son is being raised by his new wife. Finally, she gets into the crosshairs of the investigators as suspects in a new series of murders.
