When introvert high school student Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) comes home from school as usual, he finds a parcel on his doorstep. There are several tapes that his classmate Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) sent him before she recently took her life. On the phonograms she makes 13 people from her own area responsible for her fatal decision. Clay is supposed to send the cassettes to the appropriate persons, whereby gradually a clearer picture of the misunderstood Hannah results. Also Clay itself belongs to these 13 persons.

Universal Studios acquired the rights to the book adaptation to Dead Girls in February 2011 by Jay Asher. Shortly afterwards, Hannah Baker's main role was first occupied by Selena Gomez. At the end of October 2015, Netflix announced that he would make a miniserie out of the fabric, in which Gomez would instead be a producer. Katherine Langford and Dylan Minnette got the lead role of the Hannah Baker by the Clay Jensen. The 13 episodes were filmed in the summer of 2016 in northern California.
The first season has been available worldwide since March 31, 2017 on Netflix.
