The main role played by so-called Autonomous Correspondence Assistants (Japanese 人形 手記 人形 Jidō Shuki Ningyō, eng., Auto Memory Dolls), aka Akora, originally by a researcher named Dr. Orland were hired to help his blind wife Molly write novels; later, they also wrote letters for people who could not write themselves. Nowadays the term is comparable to a ghostwriter. The story takes place on the fictitious continent Telsis and mostly in the equally fictitious country Passionate (Japanese ヒ イ デ シ ヒ ヒ ヒ ヒ Raidenshafutorihi). The action follows Violet Evergarden, a young woman who tries to reintegrate herself into society after a war has ended, and the search for the meaning of her life, since she is no longer a soldier. She also explores the meaning of love throughout history.
